Rx Kids is accepting applications from eligible pregnant people and legal guardians across all 15 Upper Peninsula counties. Eligibility is county- and date-specific, and the program confirms eligibility during its application and verification process.
Check the infant cutoff for your county
March 1, 2025 cutoff: In Alger, Chippewa, Luce, Mackinac and Schoolcraft counties, an infant must have been born on or after March 1, 2025.
March 1, 2026 cutoff: In Baraga, Delta, Dickinson, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Keweenaw, Marquette, Menominee and Ontonagon counties, an infant must have been born on or after March 1, 2026.
The program’s current instructions say an applicant may enroll at 16 weeks of pregnancy or later, or after birth until the infant reaches six months, provided the infant was born after the applicable county launch date. Applicants must verify identity and residence in a participating county, plus pregnancy or legal guardianship after birth.
How the payments work
- After enrollment and verification during pregnancy, an eligible participant may receive a one-time $1,500 prenatal payment.
- After birth, eligible participants may receive $500 per month for up to six months in Upper Peninsula counties.
Rx Kids says payments begin at enrollment. That makes $4,500 the maximum for someone who enrolls during pregnancy and receives the prenatal payment plus all six infant payments; it is not a guaranteed amount for every applicant. Someone who first enrolls after birth may receive fewer monthly payments before the infant reaches six months.
Rx Kids describes the program as universal and unconditional and says it does not impose an income test. That does not mean there are no eligibility rules: county residence, pregnancy or legal guardianship, infant age, the county launch date, identity checks and program verification still apply.

On April 13, 2026, Copper Shores Community Health Foundation reported that, as of April 9, 121 families had enrolled and $189,000 in cash had been prescribed across Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw and Ontonagon counties. Those figures are a dated four-county snapshot, not a current total for the entire Upper Peninsula.
