The Barton Company Built About 250 Theatre Organs. Six Are Still Playable. One of Them Is in Ironwood.
The Bartola company of Oak Park built about 250 theatre pipe organs to play silent films. Roughly 40 are still in the buildings they were installed in, and only about six are documented as playable. One of the six is in Ironwood, in a theatre that opened in 1928, closed in 1982, and was pulled back a piece at a time by volunteers and grants. The console came home from the restorer in 2010, thirty-two years after the doors shut.
