What you are going down into

The Adventure Mine operated from 1850 to 1920, and the operating company says miners took more than 11 million pounds of native copper out of it. The modern Adventure Mining Company has run tours since 2005, and the National Park Service lists the mine as a Keweenaw National Historical Park heritage site.

The Prospector’s Tour goes in through the No. 1 adit, past pieces of native copper weighing hundreds of pounds that earlier miners left behind, with a single light on your hard hat. The Miner’s Tour starts the same way, then puts you in a harness to descend 80 feet to a lower level, crawl through several small areas and finish one of two ways: across a swing bridge over a 30-foot chasm, clipped to an overhead safety line, or down a 10-foot slide.
