Marquette Harbor Light has stood on this point since 1866, when Congress paid $13,000 to replace the original 1853 stone tower with the yellow-brick lighthouse still standing today. A second story went on in 1910, turning the keeper’s quarters into a duplex.
The lighthouse and its quarters are now the Marquette Maritime Museum’s guided-tour site, 16 people at a time, 45 steps to the top. The point itself became a City of Marquette park in 2016 and is open to walk any time — the tour is only required to go inside.
